A Look at Women’s Activism in Brazil

To celebrate Philanthropy Month and demonstrate in data how women's activism is impacting the philanthropic ecosystem, ELAS+ Doar para Transformar launched, as one of the activities of Rede Comuá, the research For Feminist Philanthropy: A Look at Women's Activism in Brazil. The survey presents a profile of civil society organizations led by women, analyzing the contexts and main challenges faced by these initiatives.

Five things we learned from feminists about giving

Women's funds are organizations that mobilize and donate resources to groups of women, girls and trans people around the world, providing them with financial and technical resources and strengthening networks to realize their vision of social justice. More than 40 of them come together in Prospera, a powerful global network.

Black Women and the Challenges of Activism in the Pandemic

The Philanthropy, Social Justice, Civil Society and Democracy Seminar, by Rede Comuá, highlighted the central role that black women must play in debates on decolonization and reconceptualization of the field of philanthropy in Brazil.

The logic of colonization and the hierarchization of bodies created tools of racial disparity that are based on coloniality and are maintained through power dynamics in social relations. These subsidize the behavior and social imaginary that feed and reproduce racial violence in everyday life. The logic of subalternization also impacts the structure of grassroots organizations and the format in which they are included in the philanthropic ecosystem, donation culture and political scenario.

International Women's Day is always a date of great reflection. Women are predominant among the member organizations that make up the Network, but this scenario does not stop there

The publication Profile of Civil Society Organizations in Brazil, launched in 2018 by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), found that 65% of the workforce in Civil Society Organizations (OSC) in the country is made up of women, also extending to the voluntary work, where data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) of 2019, from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), indicate that the female public is also the majority.
