A mirror to our field: my five-point plan for the future of philanthropy

At the end of last year, I had the privilege to speak on a panel alongside colleagues in philanthropy around the world at the Gife conference – the leading association for philanthropic foundations in Brazil. Social movements in times of pandemic: the time for philanthropy has arrived

The global Coronavirus pandemic could be the biggest crisis we will ever experience. The current situation has the potential to not only disrupt the status quo, but also to forever change our social, economic and political systems. This scenario requires that big plans be put on hold, that we focus on being present and think about doing what feels right at this precise moment. As guest editors of the Alliance's June 2020 issue on the relationship between philanthropy and social movements, we couldn't help but wonder about financing and forms of organization in a time of social distancing.
