Over its 42 years, Ibase has built a solid trajectory of innovation in working with communities and populations that are discriminated against and have precarious citizenship rights. To this end, it built research and community strengthening methodologies that resulted in innovative projects that had great influence on the formulation of inclusive and transformative public policies. Now, Ibase expands this commitment by creating the Favelas and Peripheries Fund, through which it intends to combine financial support for active citizenship—the set of grassroots organizations that operate in these territories—with the use of action research methodologies used almost a decade ago. To demonstrate, we are pre-launching the research “Active Citizenship and Access to Justice – Historical Series Complexo do Alemão 2019 – 2023”. This research makes a comparison between living conditions, rights enforced and rights violated in the territory, especially with regard to the rights of women and young residents of this favela complex between the years 2019 and 2023.
Objective of the Activity: present the results of the impacts of the transformations that occurred in Complexo do Alemão between the years 2019 and 2023 from the perspective of residents; demonstrate the action research process used by Ibase to involve active citizenship in the process of producing knowledge about their own reality; share this experience with other organizations.
