Welcome to the Comuá Network!

Redes da Maré becomes a member of the Philanthropy Network for Social Justice

In the month of June, the Philanthropy Network for Social Justice included a new member organization, Redes da Maré, an institution with a relevant history of action in the 16 favelas that make up the Maré community, in Rio de Janeiro, which works on development of actions, research and reflections in the areas of territorial development, education, the right to public security and access to justice, art and culture and identities and memories.

In recent years, the institution created a community fund aimed at supporting initiatives by leaders, movements and organizations that operate in the community, such as cultural groups, women's collectives, community college entrance exams, among others. In the context of the pandemic, the institution has developed strategic actions to combat Covid-19. The “Maré says NO to Coronavirus” campaign is an initiative designed to take place in a crisis scenario in the areas of food security, assistance to the homeless population, income generation for women, health care and prevention, production and dissemination of information and safe content and support for local artists and cultural groups.

The inclusion of Redes da Maré will be a great contribution to our Network mainly because it is an organization that operates within the scope of community philanthropy for social justice, a priority line of action for our collective. At the same time, the entry of Redes da Maré must also be understood as a strategy to expand and strengthen the Network because we believe that it will bring new reflections and learning about the field. We would like to welcome you to the organization and its team and we are happy to currently have 12 members who contribute to strengthening and expanding social justice philanthropy in Brazil.
