These are people who do not contribute to social security and who, therefore, do not have access to rights such as unemployment insurance or sickness benefit. Informal workers represent more than 40% of the workforce: a portion that has grown in recent years, especially after 2017, when the labor reform was approved. \u201cThe argument was that the reform would create jobs. It didn\u2019t,\u201d says Ana Val\u00e9ria Ara\u00fajo, superintendent of the Brazil Fund for Human Rights. <strong>\u201cToday, 40% of Brazilian workers sell their labor without having access to rights.\u201d <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-40ahh\" class=\"xVISr Y9Dpf bCMSCT OZy-3 _40ACk Ecq9kg bCMSCT public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"B2EFF public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">On April 13th, Ana Val\u00e9ria participated in the discussion panel \u201cProductive inclusion and promotion of decent work\u201d during the <strong>12th Congress of the Group of Institutes, Foundations and Companies \u2013 Gife.<\/strong> Held in S\u00e3o Paulo, the event reflected on the role of philanthropy in combating inequalities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-55src\" class=\"xVISr Y9Dpf bCMSCT OZy-3 _40ACk Ecq9kg bCMSCT public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"B2EFF public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">In addition to Ana Val\u00e9ria, the panel was made up of Mait\u00ea Louren\u00e7o, founder of <a class=\"TWoY9 itht3\" href=\"https:\/\/blackrocks.com.br\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">BlackRocks<\/a>; Nadja Brand\u00e3o, executive director at <a class=\"TWoY9 itht3\" href=\"https:\/\/reprograma.com.br\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">{reprogram}<\/a> and Rafael Gioielli, general manager at <a class=\"TWoY9 itht3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.institutovotorantim.org.br\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\">Votorantim Institute<\/a>. The conversation was mediated by Vivianne Naigeborin, superintendent of the Arymax Foundation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-e43o3\" class=\"xVISr Y9Dpf bCMSCT OZy-3 _40ACk Ecq9kg bCMSCT public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"B2EFF public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">\u201cWe understand productive inclusion as the insertion of vulnerable people into the world of work\u201d, explained Vivianne at the opening of the debate. It is a universe that, according to her, is going through a process of accelerated transformation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-f15fh\" class=\"xVISr Y9Dpf bCMSCT OZy-3 _40ACk Ecq9kg bCMSCT public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"B2EFF public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">In recent years, sometimes due to legal changes, sometimes due to the adoption of new technologies, labor relations in Brazil have changed. In general, the scenario has deteriorated. \u201cWe are living in a time of modernization of labor relations in which labor rights are identified as barriers to economic growth\u201d, pointed out Ana Val\u00e9ria during the event. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-206g0\" class=\"xVISr Y9Dpf bCMSCT OZy-3 _40ACk Ecq9kg bCMSCT public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"B2EFF public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">The result was the proliferation of precarious and poorly paid occupations. Data from the International Labor Organization (ILO) indicate that, to receive the equivalent of a minimum wage, digital platform delivery people need to maintain working hours that exceed 65 hours per week. \u201cNot infrequently, these workers are on top of a motorcycle. They are tired. Ana Val\u00e9ria believes that the proposed solutions must necessarily resume guarantees guaranteed by the 1988 Federal Constitution. \u201cThe Charter was a historic milestone in the trajectory of workers \u2013 it elevated the right to work to the condition of a fundamental right\u201d, recalled the superintendent. This achievement was the result of years of mobilization by organized civil society. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-au105\" class=\"xVISr Y9Dpf bCMSCT OZy-3 _40ACk Ecq9kg bCMSCT public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"B2EFF public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">According to Ana Val\u00e9ria, in a scenario of deterioration of labor guarantees, <strong>It is up to philanthropy to support organizations that work to promote rights in the field of work<\/strong>. \u201cThis is a collective task of Brazilian society, to realize constitutional rights.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-3c3hc\" class=\"xVISr Y9Dpf bCMSCT OZy-3 _40ACk Ecq9kg bCMSCT public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"B2EFF public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">It is in this key that the Brazil Fund works.<a class=\"TWoY9 itht3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fundobrasil.org.br\/fundo-labora-e-lancado-para-apoiar-trabalhadoras-es-na-luta-por-direitos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\"> In December 2022, the institution launched Labora \u2013 a decent work fund. <\/a>The initiative is a collective creation effort by the Brazilian Human Rights Fund, Laudes Foundation, Ford Foundation and Open Society Foundations. The project, with an initial investment of US$ 8.5 million (around R$ 45 million), aims to support and strengthen civil society on its multiple fronts of struggle for decent work, seeking to overcome the racial and gender inequalities that structure the Brazilian society and promoting the consolidation of a robust and autonomous social field in this struggle. Labora&#039;s first notice was launched in December, and should select 25 organizations that will receive support.
