The Brazil Fund will give preference to projects from organizations based on social movements, with a strong multiplier role and network action, connected to initiatives already developed by civil society today. We look for projects that strengthen organizations and movements, impact operators and institutions of the criminal justice system, and involve more people in the debate about a less discriminatory criminal justice.

This notice expects to receive projects from all over Brazil, and encourages the presentation of work proposals from organizations based in the North and Northeast of the country.

The Brazil Fund is aligned with Brazilian civil society in the understanding that the criminal justice system in Brazil is marked by institutional violence. Mass incarceration, police violence and torture mainly affect the black population, as well as other vulnerable groups, communities or people, which worsens economic, racial and gender inequalities in our society. A militarized and warlike approach to public security, combined with a culture of punishment in justice institutions, leads to the criminalization of poverty and the deepening of structural racism, contributing to a genocide of the black population.

In this sense, projects that address racial, ethnic, gender and sexual orientation dimensions will be prioritized, considering these aspects as determining factors for overcoming institutional violence and torture in the Brazilian justice system, with an intersectional vision.

We encourage the presentation of proposals led by people directly affected by mass incarceration in the country.

Pay attention to the notice dates:
Project registrations: July 31st to September 6th, 2023, at 6pm (Brasília time)
Result: from December 8, 2023

How to register a project
The only channel for registering projects in the Brazil Fund notices is the Project Portal. In the text of the notice There are all the instructions, tutorials and the link to access the portal.
